What will London look like at mid-century? According to this futuristic London Undergroundmap, it will be full of geothermal plants and algae factories that double as housing towers. Plus Tripods and giant mushrooms. We've got the full map below.

Artist Nils Norman created this map for future tourists in London as part of the Picadilly Line's 100th anniversary, and it was featured recently on Strange Maps. Strange Maps offers a thorough account of how the city has changed in 40 years, and explains (in part): [...]

Maps are never pefect representations of reality, and increasingly they’re out of date before they’re finished. Complicating matters, mapping of live phenomena (geospatial or otherwise) is becoming more and more prevelant, and even expected. Looking back to earlier representations of movement can help us figure out how to represent the fluid spaces that mapping is moving in to. Harddisken uge 4, 2010: Spejlverdener på nettet

Skrevet af: Anders Høeg Nissen, 15:53 27. januar 2010

kort_danmark2Hør udsendelsen

Klencke Atlas, which is 350 years old, will be displayed as part of British Library exhibition on maps

Klencke Atlas

The Klencke Atlas has never been publicly displayed with its pages open before. Photograph: British Library

It takes six people to lift it and has been recorded as the largest book in the world, yet the splendid Klencke Atlas, presented to Charles II on his restoration and now 350 years old, has never been publicly displayed with its pages open. That glaring omission is to be rectified, it was announced by the British Library today, when it will be displayed as one of the stars of its big summer exhibition about maps.

The summer show will feature about 100 maps, considered some of the greatest in the world, with three-quarters of them going on display for the first time.

At the exhibition's core will be wall maps, many of them huge, which tell a story that is much more than geography. Many of them, said the library's head of map collections, Peter Barber: "Hold their own with great works of art." [...]

Konference om adgang til offentlige data

Slip data fri ...

Offentlige Data I Spil Konference

Behov for ensartet praksis

Initiativet ’Offentlige Data I Spil’

Upload and store your files in the cloud with Google Docs

Endnu et sted at lægge sin backup ...
/Sik

Just another backup space in the cloud ...
/Sik

Quote

We're happy to announce that over the next few weeks we will be rolling out the ability to upload, store and organize any type of file in Google Docs. With this change, you'll be able to upload and access your files from any computer -- all you need is an Internet connection.

Instead of emailing files to yourself, which is particularly difficult with large files, you can upload to Google Docs any file up to 250 MB. You'll have 1 GB of free storage for files you don't convert into one of the Google Docs formats (i.e. Google documents, spreadsheets, and presentations), and if you need more space, you can buy additional storage for $0.25 per GB per year. This makes it easy to backup more of your key files online, from large graphics and raw photos to unedited home videos taken on your smartphone. You might even be able to replace the USB drive you reserved for those files that are too big to send over email.

Combined with shared folders, you can store, organize, and collaborate on files more easily using Google Docs. For example, if you are in a club or PTA working on large graphic files for posters or a newsletter, you can upload them to a shared folder for collaborators to view, download, and print.

You can also search for document files you've uploaded or that have been shared with you just like you do with your Google documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and PDFs. And you'll be able to view many common document file types with the Google Docs viewer.

To learn how businesses can take advantage of this new functionality, check out the post on the Enterprise Blog.

As always, we’d love your feedback and if you have any questions, please check out our help page. This feature will be enabled for your account over the next couple of weeks — look for the bubble notification when you sign in to Google Docs.

ArcBruTile display tiles from OpenStreetMap, Bing Maps, Google Maps and Geodan GeoServer in ArcGIS Desktop

ArcBruTile supports:
  • all projections;
  • client side caching.
Examples:
Local data can be combined with tiles from ArcBruTile, here we see United Nations Haiti Basemap Data from ArcGIS Online combined with the actual OpenStreetMap for Haiti.
haiti.png

ArcBruTile supports all projections, here we see the world from Bing Maps in the Dutch projection:
arcbrutile_projections.png

Google Maps is also supported:
gmaps.png

Why ArcBruTile is developed:
Because ArcGIS, one of the most popular desktop GIS program around, lacks support for non-ESRI tile services, especially the increasingly popular OpenStreetMap maps. And because we're bored searching for the always slow or lost or broken disk/service with actual map reference data :-)
ArcBruTile also solves the projections problem: all tiles are transformed on the fly to the desired projection if needed. ArcBruTile makes it very easy to combine data
with different projections.
