GIS er ikke længere kun noget for landinspektører og geografer på de højere læreranstalter - hele verden har fået øjnene op for GIS. En matematiker sagde engang at der burde sættes klistermærker på alle ting med påskriften 'Matematik indeni' - man kunne med rette mene at der også burde være et andet klistermærke ved siden af hvor der stod 'GIS udenpå'.
