FreePatentsOnline has launched a patent search tool that's map-based, and uses an interesting clustering mechanism from Maptimize. According to the press release, not only can you search for patents by drilling down into the map, you can also uncover interesting anomalies like a whopping eight patents from the tiny town of Walcott, Iowa (population: 1,528), the home of the CAT Scale Company.
