Every day scores of educational, inspirational and entertaining conference sessions, lectures, debates and other spoken-word presentations are lost. They simply evaporate because no one records them. Some of these presentations are by the greatest and most inspiring minds of our time, and many would be important to people in the far reaches of the planet, if only they could hear them.

The Conversations Network captures presentations, processes the recordings, and publishes them online in two tiers:

  • Curated Channels such as IT Conversations and Social Innovation Conversations produce and publish carefully selected conferences and unique interviews. Our part-time writers and audio engineers are located in every corner of the planet, and are led by a staff of senior producers and managers.
  • PodCorps.org is our grassroots army of volunteer audio and video stringers who record events and interviews worldwide. The Conversations Network operates an online service that matches events and television, radio and Internet producers worldwide with PodCorps.org stringers and supports our community.

The Conversations Network is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation and a section 501(c)(3) public charity under the Internal Revenue Code, contributions to which are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

John Hanke - The State of the Geoweb

Five years from now, chances are you'll be dependent upon web-based GIS applications at home and in the office. And it's likely that those GIS applications will evolve from the work of John Hanke. In this session from the 2008 O'Reilly Where 2.0 conference, Hanke discusses the progress and tremendous growth of the Geoweb. In describing Google's response to this growth, Hanke introduces a new partnership with ESRI. The new initiative will allow developers to pull data from even more GIS servers.
