For the longest time I've been obsessed with data visualization and infographics in print, specifically posters. Visualization on the Web is great, but there's a limitation with screen real estate, and data in print has always just felt so much sexier. I remember when I was at The Times and I saw my very first graphic online. It was cool, but it was even cooler when I saw it in the paper the next morning.

Enter the newest and maybe my most favorite FlowingData project - FlowingPrints.

FlowingPrints Data Posters

FlowingPrints is your newest source for data eye candy to hang on your wall or door. For each poster, I'll dig into a dataset (or a whole bunch of them) and visualize it. Some posters will be very specific, some humorous, while others will be more general. All of them will show the hidden stories in data - in the exact same spirit of FlowingData.

Posters will be printed in full color on 100# glossy cover stock and usually 24 inches wide by 36 inches tall or vice versa. I'm still working out some of the details, but most likely each poster will be priced at about $26 with free shipping.

One Poster at a Time

The way it works is I'll periodically release a new print, and you'll get one week to put in your order. Ordering then closes and posters ship out. So once a poster is released, you'll have to order before it's no longer available.

Finally, when you get your poster in the mail and happily mount it on your wall, you'll be able to discuss in the poster's topic thread on the FlowingPrints site.

From now on, I'll be using the newsletter to update you on FlowingData projects (you know, like theWalmart map or when your.flowingdata goes live) and more extensive data design tips.

What the newsletter will not be is a rehash of FlowingData posts. That'd be dumb. So even if you're subscribed to FlowingData via RSS or email, you'll still want to sign up for the newsletter.

Do you have feedback or suggestions for FlowingPrints? I'd be happy to hear them in the comments below.
