iPhone Users Lead Mobile Maps Usage in the US

Det kan da godt være at iPhone er for fed og at den vil dominere markedet et stykke tid, men det varer sjældent inden at der kommer billigere alternativer som er lige så gode. Det ændrer dog ikke på at jeg simpelthen også må ha' sådan en ...

It might be that the iPhone it the one too cool device right now and it might be the one and only device for a while. It usually don't take long before other cheaper alternatives show up and some might be just as good. It doesn't however change the fact that I just gotta have one ...

Ever since the release of the iPhone, the use of mobile maps has sored, and now that the iPhone 3G has been released, this sore has skyrocketted to new heights.
ComScore reports that use of mobile maps has jumped 82% in the US and 49% in Europe. In the US, the increase in the number of users accessing maps from a mobile device far outpaced the increase in the number of people who accessed maps via the PC, which to me makes plenty of sense.
Within the US, Apple`s iPhone is leading the mobile market for mobile maps usage, whereas in Europe, Nokia`s N95 and N70 series of cellphones are still doing better than the iPhone - which is most likely caused by the short period of time the iPhone has been available in said country.
“The mobile phone as a personal navigation device makes tremendous sense,” observed Mark Donovan, senior analyst at comScore.
“With the influx of devices, such as the iPhone with GPS, entering the market, Nokia’s purchase of NAVTEQ and the growing popularity of downloadable navigation applications, you don’t need a map to see where this sector is going.”

It surely won`t be long before Apple`s iPhone line up is the leading device for mobile maps usage. Just you wait and see.
